WHAT SHOULD I DO IF MY TOOTH GETS KNOCKED OUT? – OPTIMAL DENTAL – DR ROMAN LOHYN – COSMETIC AND GENERAL DENTIST – MELBOURNE – VICTORIA
What should I do if my front tooth gets knocked out?
First things first, find your tooth. Do not handle it by the root and do not place it in water.
Car accidents, sporting injuries and unfortunate incidents in the home often result in the loss of a tooth. As soon as your tooth is knocked out make fast tracks to Optimal Dental. If you can get to us within 30 minutes of the incident, there is an 85% chance the tooth will survive.
After you have lost your tooth, the first step you must undertake is to find the tooth. Once you have found your tooth handle it very delicately, not touching the fragile root as it will be needed intact to encourage re-attachment. You must also resist the temptation to clean your tooth off with water. If the tooth is clean, place it gently back into its socket immediately and apply slight pressure. If the tooth is dirty, rinse it using milk and place it back into its socket. Otherwise keep the tooth moist by placing it in a glass of milk or tuck it into you cheek until you can visit your Dentist.
Prevention is always better than cure, we recommend wearing a mouthguard during all contact sports. Speak with Dr Roman Lohyn at your next dental appointment about having a custom fitted mouthguard made.
